THE SCHOOL

350 years of educating

young people

Reigate Grammar School was founded in 1675 by Alderman Henry Smith, whose vision was to create educational opportunity for young people. For over 350 years, pupils have been educated in the heart of Reigate, Surrey, building a tradition of academic achievement, opportunity and personal growth.

Today, Reigate Grammar School is a leading HMC independent co-educational day school, recognised for outstanding academic outcomes, exceptional pastoral care and a commitment to educating the whole child.

Guided by the belief that happy kids achieve great results, RGS creates an environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their ambitions while developing confidence, character and purpose.

THE CONNECTION

What links Kuala Lumpur to Surrey

RGSKL maintains a close and active relationship with Reigate Grammar School in the UK. RGS UK undertakes compliance and quality visits twice each year, contributes to academic and curriculum oversight, and works directly with RGSKL leaders to support shared standards.

The wider RGS family also creates opportunities for collaboration across schools and connects pupils to the Reigatian community beyond Kuala Lumpur.

This is what makes the Reigate name meaningful in Kuala Lumpur: an active educational relationship, not simply a shared identity.

A welcome from Shaun Fenton OBE

There is something wonderful about seeing the Reigatian family growing in Kuala Lumpur.

Schools are, above all else, about people. About relationships. About young people being surrounded by adults who believe in them, who notice them and who want them to succeed.

I have always believed that knowing that you matter, really matters.

At RGSKL, our commitment to every family is simple: we will know your child. Not just their grades or the subjects they are good at, but what excites them.

Where they need encouragement and where they might need someone who believes in them before they fully believe in themselves.

And we do.

There is no single ‘type’ of successful Reigatian. Every child brings their own talents, interests, ambitions and possibilities. Our job is not to decide who a young person should become, but to help them discover it for themselves.

That is what Go Beyond means.

Be ambitious. Ask another question. Have a go. Get something wrong and try again. Discover something you love. And enjoy it.

Because we have learnt something important over many years at Reigate: happy kids get great results.

Happiness and achievement belong together. Young people who feel secure enough to take a risk, confident enough to ask for help and valued enough to be themselves can achieve extraordinary things.

RGSKL brings that Reigatian belief to Malaysia, combining academic ambition and educational heritage with the warmth, culture and international outlook of Kuala Lumpur.

Different country. Different community. The same belief in what young people can become.

I am tremendously proud of RGSKL and excited about what lies ahead. Most of all, I hope every young person who joins this community knows three things:

I am known. I matter. They believe in me.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Reigatian community.

INDEPENDENTLY CHECKED

Accreditation

Oversight from RGS UK is one form of assurance. External inspection is another, and it matters more, because the people conducting it have no stake in the answer.

RGSKL is pursuing accreditation from COBIS, the Council of British International Schools, BSO, British Schools Overseas, and ISI, the Independent Schools Inspectorate. These are the bodies that inspect British independent schools around the world, against the same standards applied in the United Kingdom.
