Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care at RGSKL
At RGSKL, pastoral care sits at the heart of school life. We believe students thrive when they feel safe, known, and supported, and this belief underpins everything we do. Pastoral care is not a standalone system; it is a shared responsibility across the whole school community, shaping how we support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our approach focuses on the individual child. By building strong relationships and clear structures of support, we ensure every student develops a sense of belonging and feels confident coming to school each day.

The Form Tutor Relationship
Every student at RGSKL has a Form Tutor who plays a central role in their school experience. This role is rooted in the long-standing British educational tradition of personal tutoring, ensuring that each student is known as an individual within a busy school environment. The Form Tutor is the first point of contact for students and parents and works closely with pastoral leaders and senior staff to support each child’s wellbeing and progress.
Daily form time provides a consistent and supportive start to the school day. It allows tutors to check in with students, build strong relationships, and provide guidance on organisation, routines, and expectations. Over time, this trusted relationship enables Form Tutors to understand each student’s strengths, interests, and challenges, and to act as an advocate when support is needed.
Pastoral Care in the
Secondary School
Pastoral care remains a cornerstone of life in the Secondary School. Students are supported through consistent tutor relationships and clear pastoral structures that help them manage the increasing academic and personal demands of secondary education.
As students progress into the senior years, pastoral support becomes more targeted. Alongside their tutor, students receive focused academic guidance to support examination preparation, subject choices, and future pathways. This balanced approach ensures academic ambition is matched with strong emotional support, particularly during key transition points and examination years.

Our Learning Spaces
Bright, well-equipped classrooms and age-appropriate learning zones support exploration, movement, and collaboration. From our dedicated Early Years inside areas to creative play corners and outdoor learning areas, every space is thoughtfully designed to meet children’s developmental needs and spark imaginative thinking.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
PSHE plays a vital role in supporting students’ personal development and wellbeing. At RGSKL, PSHE provides a structured framework through which students learn about relationships, mental health, online safety, personal responsibility, and respect for others.
Delivered within a familiar and supportive environment, PSHE encourages open discussion and reflection, helping students develop confidence, resilience, and social awareness. It supports the school’s aim of developing thoughtful, socially responsible young people who are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
The House System
The House System is a key part of pastoral life at RGSKL and plays an important role in building community across the school. From Primary onwards, students belong to a House, providing them with a strong sense of identity and belonging within the wider school.
Through house events, competitions, and shared activities, students build friendships across year groups and develop teamwork, responsibility, and pride in collective achievement. The House System also offers opportunities for leadership, allowing students to contribute positively to school life and develop confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment.

“For many students, representing their house in a range of competitive and collaborative events gives them both purpose and pride in shared achievement. Our house system helps students build loyalty, responsibility, and respect for others, while creating strong networks that extend beyond school life.”

Medical Support
RGSKL places strong emphasis on students’ physical wellbeing. The school has a qualified, full-time nurse who works closely with the pastoral and safeguarding teams to support students’ health and welfare throughout the school day.
The nurse provides routine and emergency care, maintains health records, supports students with medical needs, and liaises with parents as required. Working collaboratively with pastoral and safeguarding colleagues, the medical provision ensures students are well supported, safe, and able to focus fully on their learning and development.
Safeguarding underpins all aspects of pastoral care at RGSKL, with clear systems in place to ensure students are safe, supported, and listened to at all times.
