Exceptional care
Exceptional care underpins every part of school life. Pupils thrive when they feel safe, known and supported, and our pastoral approach brings together strong relationships, clear safeguarding procedures and attentive guidance for every child.
Teachers take time to understand each pupil's personality, strengths, needs and motivations. This deep knowledge allows us to provide the right balance of emotional support and academic challenge, helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and a genuine sense of belonging.

Through age-appropriate pastoral education, pupils build the language and self-awareness to understand their physical and emotional wellbeing, form healthy relationships and seek support when they need it.

Pastoral care and safeguarding are shared responsibilities across our whole school community, shaping how we support every pupil academically, socially and emotionally.
THE ANCHOR
One adult who knows your child
Every student at RGSKL has a Form Tutor. The role comes from the long-standing British tradition of personal tutoring, and it exists so that no child is anonymous in a busy school.

Daily form time gives the day a consistent start. Tutors check in, build relationships, and guide students on organisation, routines and expectations. Over time that trusted relationship means the tutor understands a student’s strengths, interests and difficulties, and can act as their advocate when support is needed.
​
The Form Tutor is also your first point of contact. Not a general enquiries address. A person who knows your child by name.
AS THEY GROW
Pastoral care in the Secondary School
Pastoral care remains a cornerstone as students move into Secondary. Consistent tutor relationships and clear structures help them manage the rising academic and personal demands of these years.

In the senior years, support becomes more targeted. Alongside their tutor, students receive focused academic guidance on examination preparation, subject choices and future pathways. Academic ambition is matched with emotional support, particularly at transition points and through examination years.
PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
PSHE gives students a structured framework for learning about relationships, mental health, online safety, personal responsibility and respect for others.

Delivered in a familiar and supportive setting, it encourages open discussion and reflection, building confidence, resilience and social awareness. It is how we develop thoughtful, socially responsible young people who are prepared for what comes next.
THE HOUSE SYSTEM
Tuah, Jebat, Kasturi and Lekir
The House system sits at the heart of community life at RGSKL. From Primary onwards, every pupil belongs to one of four Houses. Named for Malaysian warriors and carried in the British house tradition, together they reflect the school's British heritage and its Malaysian home.

Through competitions, performances, cultural celebrations, charity initiatives and shared events, pupils build friendships across year groups and develop pride in contributing to something larger than themselves.
The House system also creates meaningful opportunities for leadership, teamwork, service and responsibility. Older pupils support younger members of their House, helping to create a connected community where every child can participate, contribute and belong.
For many students, representing their House in competitive and collaborative events gives them both purpose and pride in shared achievement. Our House System helps students build loyalty, responsibility and respect for others, while creating strong networks that extend beyond school life.

THE SUPPORT AROUND YOUR CHILD
Who is actually there
A Form Tutor
Named, and the same person all year. Daily form time, first point of contact for you, and your child’s advocate within the school.
A school counsellor
Available to every student. A calm, confidential space for academic, personal or social pressures.
A full-time qualified nurse
On site through the school day, providing routine and emergency care, maintaining health records and supporting students with medical needs.
A Designated Safeguarding Lead
Clear systems, clear reporting, and a named senior leader accountable for keeping students safe.
COUNSELLING
Somewhere to talk
Support centres on helping students reflect on their goals, talk through concerns, and build strategies for their own wellbeing. That may be individual sessions, small group work or input within form time.

The counsellor works closely with the pastoral team, teachers and parents. Where longer-term or specialist support is needed, we help families access external professionals.
SAFEGUARDING
The foundation underneath all of it
Safeguarding underpins every aspect of pastoral care at RGSKL. Clear systems are in place to ensure students are safe, supported and listened to at all times, led by a Designated Safeguarding Lead and shared across every member of staff.
